Pilot eco-scheme given 'Green' light by Bromyard pupils!

Children from Bromyard's Queen Elizabeth Humanities College have been having their say on a pilot project to promote youth volunteering, combined with green activities such as trade recycling. The scheme will aim to reward young people who give their time and energy as volunteers, providing out-of-school activities and helping towards qualifications. Pupils have been giving their reactions to the plan and have made many suggestions about what they would like to see happen for young people in the Bromyard area.

Founder of the scheme, Lucy Hurds (North Herefordshire Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate) has been working with staff at Queen Elizabeth to collect the opinions of the children. Teachers such as Sue Taylor helped distribute surveys designed by John Williams and James Rogers of V-Involved (youth section of Herefordshire Voluntary Association). A large number took part and gave ideas such as easier access to swimming and fitness facilities and more youth club opportunities.

Collecting the surveys, Lucy Hurds said, "The enthusiasm of the pupils at QE for a project that gives them the opportunity to help the community whilst gaining better facilities for themselves has shown us that this proposal has a real chance of success. If all goes well, the pilot scheme will start this September and we hope, with HVA and Herefordshire Council to start more projects like this across Herefordshire in the next year."
