Local campaigner Jo Lane chosen to fight Old Gore byelection!12.00.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 7th Mar 2008
On April 10th, residents of Old Gore ward will go to the polling stations to choose their new county councillor. Herefordshire Liberal Democrats have selected local woman Jo Lane as their candidate. This follows Conservative Councillor Tessa Mclean's decision to stand down, less than a year after winning her election in Old Gore. The ward includes villages such as Much Marcle, Woolhope, Kings Caple, Brampton Abbotts, Upton Bishop and Foy. Following the chaos and confusion over the Council's schools review, local campaigner Jo Lane has decided to stand for election with the Liberal Democrats. Jo commented, 'I was absolutely appalled at the way the Conservatives running our county wanted to tear apart our rural schools such as Kings Caple and Brampton Abbotts. I'm going to be fighting to make sure they have a safe future. My kids grew up here and I want to make sure others get the same opportunities they had.' Jo feels strongly that all rural services should be protected, to maintain our rural way of life. Jo was born and grew up in Ross . She has lived locally all her life, her father was chief reporter of the Ross Gazette for over forty years and her two children both went to school locally. She now does work for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
